Re: Sherman

Peter Fahringer <pfahringer@...>

Hey Jeff.
I can probably stop in on 449.450 after 6:30, what time? I've got a 2M
tape measure beam that works well, if I don't do Sherman, its available for
use by anyone. I'll be using/bringing a FT-50 dual HT with a few batteries
and a extendable whip, same setup as I had on Quandary last year. If you
really want me to suffer, I could bring an IC-706MKII and gel-cell for
other bands, but that's not in my plans.

I've did Longs 3 years ago and its still my favorite 14er so I'd love to
join the crew, but it'd also be nice to climb a new peak. Let me know what
time and I'll hop on 449.450.

BTW, I'm based in Lafayette.

Peter can you get in touch with us on the 449.450 repeater this evening? I
contacted Chris off list and he will most likely join us, and i suspect there
would be room for you as well, or at least if you join us it increases the
odds
that one of us will make it to the top. I intend to bring a 70 cm Beam and
perhaps a dipole for 20. We will have the FT-817 with us. If you have a 2
meter
beam that would be great, or some other band to help us cover the bases.

Hi all.

I have out-of-town guests this weekend (my parents!), but am entertaining
the possiblity of climbing Mt. Sherman early in the day and meeting them
in Breck by lunch. Wondering if anyone else has Sherman in their sights?
Alternatively, I'm interested in joining Jeff (N0XDW) and/or Ron (KØLMD) on
Longs early in the day. Could you guys email or call me with your
schedule?

I was on top of Humboldt Peak on Monday and enjoyed the views. Worked a
couple 2m repeaters in CO, NM, and even Amarillo TX before returning
down. Hoping to work as many mt. top stations as possible regardless of
where I end up.

P.S. Chris (KOCAO), the Yahoo database shows Jeff and Ron climbing Longs.

change of plans

n0ec <n0ec@...>

Since someone else has plans for Long's Peak, I'm planning on being
on either Kit Carson Peak, Crestone Peak, or Crestone Needle (all
near Westcliff, SW of Pueblo). I will have 2 meter ssb, as well as
limited power on 144/220/440 fm. I will also be using a 4 element
yagi, and plan on being there as close to 9 am as possible, and
depending on weather and battery life, stay through noon. I will
also be keeping contact through the Colorado Connection repeater
system. Hope to catch ya all.

Ron,

I'll be down in Albuquerque Saturday, but should be back home by Sunday, so
hope to work you on one or more bands. Should be easy to do as all three are
line of site from here.

Torrey's Peak

Just to confirm,
My xyl and myself will be on Torrey's Peak, sunday
from 9 until we get cold. Let's hope the weather is
good. We'll be working 2M FM frequency on 147.42
MHz, and 70cm on 446.000.
I'll have two beams with me, want to try to hit far
off peaks with <100 mW. Otherwise, I will jack up the
power. Plus I'll have other HTs with ducks, maybe
an improvised whip, also.

See you all on the air on Sunday.

Spread out on unoccuppied summits

Bob Witte, K0NR <list@...>

There's been a bunch of email going around here in the
final days before the event with people making last
minute plans for the 14er event. This is great...sounds
like we will have a good level of activity!

I'd like to encourage people to try to climb a peak that
is not already covered. If we all go up the same mountain, it
is going to be a boring event. More summits is better.

Mark,
Don't forget, as 147.42 MHz gets busy, please move
up in frequency in 15 kHz steps. Otherwise, everyone
will end up interfering with each other on 147.42 MHz.

See www.Colorado14erEvent.org/

Oh, and multiple operators on the same band on the same mountain
are guaranteed to interfere with each other. So plan on some kind
of coordination of transmissions from the same summit.

Hi Bob
I just want to wish you all the best tomorrow.
Sorry I have had zero Ham activity mostly this year, do to racing.

We won't make Bross as both my son & I are working 7 days a week to get our
Shelby race car ready for the Vintage portion of the CART Denver Grand Prix
race next weekend around the Pepsi Center.

Still hope to do a hike up next year when I will be 75. We have gathered
quite a group of nonhams that want to go along. Fortunately, none will be 75
years old.

Good luck to all

Best Regards,

Colorado 14er Event - Colorado Connection

Bob Witte, K0NR <list@...>

This is the first year that we will be using the Colorado
Connection Repeater System for passing information during the
14er Event. We've received permission from the Colorado
Connection people to do this.

A few very important points:

- Do not monopolize the repeater system, make sure
other users have access to it. Leave breaks between
transmissions.
- We will have a net control station in place but
it will be an informal net. Net Control will
keep track of what summits are on the air and
share that information with interested parties.
- 14er Stations can check in with Net Control when
they are on the air, on the summit. However, if
the repeater system gets busy, this can be a real
time waster, so don't feel like you have to do it.
(We will be scanning the bands and will probably
know you are on the air via that method.)
- Please don't start making 14er contacts on the
repeater system. If this turns into a test of
whether you can hit the Colorado Connection, then
we might as well all stay home! The 14er Event is
a simplex event.
- Be advised there is a statewide ARES net that
uses the Connection system starting at 830 local
time. We will need to wait until they are finished
before using the system.

Bob
