I thought I had a commitment that weekend but it looks like I am free to hike.

Is the database file ready for us to add our summit plans?

DMR & SOTA

Terry Carter

Hey everyone!

I just bought an Anytone AT-D868UV, and I was wondering if anyone else wanted to try a few QSOs using DMR simplex during the event. I’m not sure how to do it yet, but I have a month to figure it out!!

New Colorado (W0C) SOTA email list

Bob K0NR

There is a new email list for W0C (Colorado) Summits On The Air enthusiasts set up on groups.io

If you are active in SOTA in Colorado and want to share trip and activation information, you may want to subscribe to the group:
https://groups.io/g/w0c-sota

FYI, many ham radio yahoogroups seem to be migrating to groups.io, so that may be something we should consider for the ham14er list. No decision has been made about that...just an idea.

Cottonwood Pass Road and Trailhead Closures

There will be major construction on the road to Cottonwood Pass (CR 306, west of Buena Vista) in 2018.
This will impact access to some popular trailheads including the Denny Creek TH for Mount Yale.

Subject: Hello Bob and SOTA Gear For Sale

Hi Bob, Steve, Stu

Long time no talk.  I’m reaching out to you for perhaps a little help.  I have an extensive collection of SOTA gear which I would like to sell.  I haven’t done any SOTA activations in about two years and due to personal reasons, I don’t see myself doing any in the future.

The list is fairly extensive and when bundled all together and purchased based on today’s prices would exceed $5,000.  I’m basically looking to sell everything considered to be related to SOTA including the KX3 setup, Yaesu VX-8R, Buddipole antenna system, Buddipower battery/charger etc.

I’ve been working the past week or so to compile the list and research what these items would cost if purchased today.   The gear (all of it) has been well cared for and is in great working order.  For an individual who has been thinking about getting into SOTA, portable ops etc. (but doesn’t have any gear) this would give them everything they needed (except the kitchen sink).

I realize by attempting to sell everything in one lot will certainly limit my audience, I’m willing to make the offer pretty sweet.  For anyone local who we can do a face-to-face transaction (in other words, avoid shipping charges), I’m willing to let sell this for $3,000 cash or will even consider Paypal if that helps the buyer.  Again, I know I’m limiting my audience…but I really would love for this equipment to go to someone who’ll enjoy it, use it and perhaps even use it right here in Colorado.

Do either of you know anyone who might be interested?  I will be out of town this weekend, but could meet up with anyone interested early next week.

For anyone interested, they may email me kd0bik@... or call my cell phone 303 886 1066.

Good morning!

I have already been pondering what to climb this year for the 14er event. Last year I climbed Missouri Mountain on Saturday, then worked race communications for the Leadville Boom Days Burro Race on Sunday. I think two 14ers in one weekend might be a bit much for me. I really hope I can work that race again this year on Sunday.

There are several unactivated summits that are part of the Colorado Centennials that have not been activated yet. I might do one of those. Ice Mountain, W0C/SP-005 13,951 and Emerald Mountain, W0C/SP-006 at 13,904 feet are on my short list for Saturday.

Hi Ham14er Folks.  Greetings from the flatlands.  This year we plan to ascend and work from Mt. Yale.  Last year in the 14er Event we enjoyed making contacts from Humboldt Peak.  We have been monitoring the posts of  reports of injuries and fatalities among climbers, and it truly is heartbreaking and sobering, so we all obviously have to keep that in mind.  Still, we look forward to the challenge.  Hope everyone has a pleasant Spring.

Gerry,
Great to see that people are already planning for the 14er event.
I confess that this caused me to set up the table in the database for 2018 operating plans, which can be found here:
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ham14er/database
This table is the place to indicate operating plans. The basic idea is that we can cover more summits and have a more fun event if we spread out a bit.
(If we all end up on the same mountain, it will be a crowded, QRM-filled weekend.)
